Our history

STEWART HISTORICAL SOCIETY was founded December 05, 1975 by Reverend Tom Armstrong and the doors of the STEWART MUSEUM opened July 01, 1976. The first museum was located in the Old Firehall. In 2012 the STEWART MUSEUM was relocated to the Historic Government Agent building at 703 Brightwell. The STEWART HISTORICAL SOCIETY has, further to its mandate; gathered, preserved, exhibited, and interpreted the history of Stewart, British Columbia, and the surrounding areas. With its collection, programs and exhibitions, the STEWART MUSEUM has distinguished itself as a dynamic institution that greatly enriches the cultural life of our community.
