Our History

Stewart Historical Society was founded December 5, 1975 by Reverend Tom Armstrong and the doors of the Stewart Museum opened July 1, 1976. The first museum was located in the Old Firehall. In 2012 the Stewart Museum was relocated to the Historic Government Agent building at 703 Brightwell. The Stewart Historical Society has, further to its mandate; gathered, preserved, exhibited, and interpreted the history of Stewart, British Columbia, and surrounding areas. The Stewart Museum has distinguished itself as a dynamic institution that greatly enriches the cultural life of our community.
